Tyler's middle names, Michael and Andrew, are after his two grandfathers.
The reason he has two middle names is because my husband's father,
Andrew, was British, and it's a popular thing to do in England. Last
night we were telling Tyler that today was his grandpa's birthday, and
we talked about what birthdays might be like in heaven.
We have
pictures of Andrew in our home and love to tell Tyler stories about him.
(We typically use a British accent when reenacting something he once
said.) Even though our sons didn't get to meet their grandpa, he is and
will always be a part of them. I feel grateful that I was able to meet
him and spend time with him so I can share stories about him too. When
we look up at the stars, we remind Tyler that his grandpa was a
brilliant astronomer, who attended Cambridge and even went on to earn
his PhD. He became a professor, and like Tyler, he was one of two boys.
We love that Tyler and Brady get to experience having a brother, just
like Andrew and his brother, Martin.
We miss Andrew very much
and wish we could hug him and celebrate with him on his birthday. But
when we see his daughter, Caroline, or get to hear Dan or his mom tell
stories about him, or share home movies, it's a reminder that he still
impacts us all every day, both in big and small ways. And that will
always be so. Happy birthday Papaw Wilson. We love you and miss you
and will always remember you.
