A Fall Preview

This week, despite being very, very hot, the leaves on the tree in front of our house turned orange and fell to the ground.  When we went to the park we saw that the same thing was happening to the trees there, too.  I am so looking forward to fall weather!!

This week Tyler attended his friend Grace's 5th birthday party, which included a karate class.  Unfortunately, Tyler only lasted about 15 minutes of the class but was happy to stay for pizza and cake.  :-)  We got to see my friend, Allison, and her boys, Lucas & Noah.  Tyler also went to the school playground and to his favorite indoor playground.  We had a pool picnic with Dan and I had a first birthday photo shoot.  We went to see my dad and mom, who had to have her appendix taken out unexpectedly.  :-(

Hot Weather

This week Tyler had a playdate with his friends Zachary, Austin, Noah, and Alex.  We also took him to Baby Alex's 2nd birthday party where he got to see many of his friends!  He had a playdate with Noah & Alex at our house, and we went to his favorite indoor playground.  We met my friend Tara for coffee then walked around a pond and to a nearby playground.  We also went to my old school to visit my friend, Gordon, who I hadn't seen in five years.  He gave Tyler a little school bus, which made him very happy.  He spent time with my parents while I enjoyed a three hour coffee date with my friend, Barbara!  I also had a coffee date with my friend Julie, and Dan and I took Tyler to the pool and to the school playground.  Tyler and I stayed inside all day on a particularly hot day so I could clean and organize the house.  Tyler did a great job entertaining himself while I worked!  We also went to the library and I loved reading Judy Blume's new book, In the Unlikely Event.  This week was so busy, but fun!

BIG News

Tyler is going to be a BIG BROTHER in December!!!  We are so, so happy and extremely thankful to be expecting a baby.  :-)

I woke up on Thursday, April 16th feeling very, very sick.  I had been feeling awful all week, dealing with a cough, sore throat, and headache.  I assumed it was a virus but when I woke up that morning I knew I had to go see my doctor.  I told Dan he wouldn't be able to go into work because I didn't think I could even feed Tyler breakfast.  I knew it was possible that I was pregnant but I hadn't planned to take a test for another week.  Worried that I may have strep throat, and that my doctor would want to prescribe me an antibiotic, I figured I should take a pregnancy test just in case.  I quickly saw that it was negative, put the test in our guest room so Dan wouldn't see what I was up to, and went downstairs.  After three hours on the couch, I went upstairs to get ready for my doctor's appointment.  I grabbed the test to throw it away and when I glanced at it again, I saw a very faint line.  I knew immediately that I was pregnant!  I called Dan upstairs to tell him, took another test, which had the same result, and went to my appointment.  "You have influenza," the doctor said.  It wasn't the way I had hoped to start my pregnancy but she assured me that the baby would be fine.  I couldn't take an antibiotic and she said I needed to allow my fever to break on its own.  It was a miserable day physically and a very happy day emotionally!  :-)

April 20th - 4 weeks pregnant & finally over the flu!

                                                May 18th - 8 weeks pregnant!

I started to feel nauseous during week six but I still felt extremely anxious about our eight week ultrasound.  We so desperately wanted to see our baby and their beating heart.  I was relieved that Dan and I couldn't see the ultrasound screen during my appointment.  We just waited then heard the doctor say, "There's a little someone in here!  Just one someone.  With a heartbeat!"  We were soooo happy and relieved.  She turned the screen around so we could see, and we couldn't believe how much our baby looked like a baby at just 8 weeks!  Their measurement was only one day off and when I had a quick second, I texted my mom and wrote, "Heartbeat!!!!  :-)"  Dan and I went to Sweetwater to celebrate then went to my parents' house to tell Tyler.  He knew I had been feeling sick and was going to see a doctor.  We finally were able to tell him, "It's a baby!  You're going to be a big brother!"

The next day we had a playdate with my friends, Jen & Michelle, and their children.  After about twenty minutes, Tyler marched over and said, "There's a baby in my mommy's belly."  When they said, "What?!" he said, "There's a baby in my mommy's belly."  Then he covered his ears with his hands when they started screaming.  :-)

Though I continued to feel sick as the weeks went by, we were very anxious for our next ultrasound at 11 weeks.  Seconds after the ultrasound began, we saw our baby on the screen looking SO much bigger than the last time we saw them.  :-)  We were so relieved and loved being able to hear their heartbeat for the first time!  Their measurement perfectly matched their due date - December 28th!  :-)

June 15th - 12 weeks pregnant and definitely starting to show!

July 13th - 16 weeks & really showing!

Tyler went with me to my 16 week appointment and loved hearing the heartbeat of his "brother/sister" (his adorable name for the baby!!)

Jenna the Cat

Jenna the cat stayed with us for two nights while my parents were out of town for a wedding.  Dan adopted Jenna after she was found during Hurricane Katrina.  She was our baby until Tyler arrived, and she went to my parents' house for what was supposed to be a "short visit".  Then we found out that Tyler is allergic to cats.  :-(  She was a good girl for the most part during her visit and Tyler enjoyed having her live with us.

This week was busy!!  Tyler went to the library and to his favorite indoor playground.  Dan and I took him to the pool, which he loved.  He went to the school playground twice.  We also met my friend, Nina, for dinner, then she went with us to another park that Tyler likes.  He spent a day with my parents while my friend Vanessa was in town, and I attended my friend Chrissy's wedding, which was beautiful!  :-)

4th of July

This week I was a little bit late taking Tyler's care bear comparison photo.  I took a photo of him next to the bear when he was two weeks old, then when he was one month old, then every month until he turned one.  After his first birthday, I started taking the pictures every three months.  Since we were out of town on the 24th, we took the photo when we got home & Tyler was a very good boy!  He was very into playing air hockey this week, and reminded me that Santa gave it to him.  :-)

We loved having Dan home for a three day weekend!  I had a photo shoot and afterwards, Dan took Tyler to his favorite indoor playground so I could do all of my editing.  Dan got to see his friend, Marco, while Tyler and I went to my parents' house and to a party at my friend Jen's house.  Dan, Tyler, and I went to a farm one day, where Tyler enjoyed sitting on tractors, playing at the playground, & seeing all of the animals.  We even got to see one of the workers milk a cow.  When we were driving to the farm we realized that we were all dressed in blue & black.  :-)  Tyler also had a playdate with his friends, Alex, Austin, & Zachary.
