We had such a great time in Dewey Beach! I was a little nervous (as
I always am before a vacation with two kids!) but it worked out really
well. I'd never been to Dewey Beach before, so I had no idea what our
hotel would be like, where we would be able to take the boys to eat, or anything! I only did a
little bit of research online to find two fun places for us to go to
(one we could walk to!) and a friend of mine suggested a water park.
We knew there was a boardwalk in nearby Rehoboth Beach, with a small
amusement park, but that was it!
My
mother-in-law did such a great job finding us the perfect hotel. Not
only was it very close to the beach, but it was right across from a Bar & Grill! We went and
picked up take out from the restaurant almost every day, since Brady doesn't love to sit in a high chair for long periods of time! The hotel also had delicious coffee
available 24/7 in the lobby.
We also
loved that Dewey Beach is closer to home than any other beach we've been
to! The worst part of the whole trip was getting stuck in horrible
traffic on the way there. Poor Brady, who has been doing great in the
car lately, was tired but couldn't fall asleep because we weren't
moving! We barely moved for an hour, but once we got through that,
everything went so, so well.
Once we arrived,
we visited Dan's sister, Caroline, and her son, Liam, in their room,
while we waited for Dan's mom to arrive. Once we were all settled in
our rooms, we walked to a nearby Italian restaurant. This turned out to
be the only time we all went out to a restaurant. It worked out well because there was a "restaurant" side and a "takeout" side, which had
tables. So it was more like a fast food environment (perfect for the three
little boys!), but with restaurant food!
Every
morning we all tried to meet for breakfast. Having a breakfast
provided by the hotel was so, so helpful! Brady had two bad nights out
of the six nights we were there. The two mornings after his bad nights,
he and I were either first to breakfast, or I was first to visit
the coffee maker in the lobby at 5 am! After breakfast, we'd get ready
to go to the beach! Last year, Brady wanted to walk away from the beach
(over and over again) which was what Tyler wanted to do at that age! We were hopeful that he'd like the beach more this year, and he
did! Even though Dan's mom brought lots of fun beach toys that all the
boys enjoyed playing with, Brady seemed happiest holding a plastic cup
or a coffee cup from our room. He'd walk to the water, fill up his cup,
then pour out the water (over & over & over again). Brady and I
were often the first two to head back to the hotel, since he is still
napping two hours a day.
We went to the
Boardwalk twice, and Tyler and I rode a super scary ride! Brady was
happy to ride the carousal. One day we all went to a huge water park. Dan
and Tyler loved the water slides (I got to do two different ones with
Tyler!) and Brady liked the lazy river and the baby pool. He loved
jumping in the water, and "swimming" around. One day Dan
stayed with Brady while he napped, and Tyler and I got to do some
shopping and have an ice cream date. Tyler and I also had a dinner date
on 8/8/18. Dan and I can't believe we've been married for nine years
now, and together almost 13!!
We only had
rain for a short period on one of the days (thankfully during Brady's
nap, so we were inside anyway!) We enjoyed the hotel pool, and even ate
lunch at the pool one day. We took the boys to two different
playgrounds, which they loved. One day at the beach, we got to see a
whale swimming by! Everyone on the beach was watching the whale, and we
honestly couldn't believe what we were seeing! The whale jumped up
twice to catch fish and it was amazing!
Since
we were in a room with one tv, my three boys were good sports about
letting me watch my shows - the Bachelorette finale, Bachelor in
Paradise, Big Brother, and Making the Team - Dallas Cowboys
Cheerleaders. We were so lucky that on August 8th, the date we chose to do
family beach pictures, we had really good light. Everyone did
such a great job! I always love taking a picture of Dan with the boys,
to add to the collection we have from each of our vacations since
having Tyler. Dan even took a photo that I love of me and Brady! I
still haven't had a chance to go through all of the pictures from our
vacation (there are so many of them!) but we keep talking about how much
fun we had on our trip!
